for the past weeks, i’ve been talking non-stop about the most famous wizard in the world… HARRY POTTER!!!!
it’s my sister’s birthday today, and for her b-day treat, i took her to watch Harry Potter with me. (actually, we’ll still watch it anyway, regardless of anyone celebrating their birthday. we’re that obsessed! ) i immediately reserved the tickets once the schedules were out, which was a week ago. if i love the movie that much, i make it a point that i must watch it on the opening day. (i usually take the last full show since i still have classes during the day) luckily, my thursday class schedule for this term is only 4:30-5:30, and since my sister insisted that we watch the first show, i was able to reserve tickets for the 1:10 screening.
excited as we were, we arrived at the cinema right on time! (i was suppose to read again the book before seeing the film, but due to some circumstances, i wasn’t able to spare the time )
when you’re an avid fan of the series (like my sister and me ), you can’t help but make a relentless comparison between the book and the film adaptation… below, is my honest review on the movie. be warned that this is my personal reaction and opinion, so it may not be similar to how you think of the movie. you can choose not to read if you don’t want any spoilers…
the harry potter series is about the adventures of a young wizard as he battles against an evil sorcerer who killed his parents. (as if you didn’t already know that! )
harry potter and the half-blood prince is the sixth book of the series (and the sixth movie as well). if you haven’t seen any of the prequels yet, just do everyone a favor and don’t bother to watch this movie anymore. (you’ll annoy the hell out of everyone when you interrupt every scene with all your questions ) and for those who haven’t read the books, let me give you a little background of what half-blood prince is all about.
harry has come into possession of an old potions textbook which was once owned by a “half-blood prince”. he has been following the advice of the previous owner’s handwritten notes and formula corrections scribbled throughout the book which amazingly made him the top student in his potions class. soon, harry discovers that the spells of the half-blood prince aren’t so amazing after all. while harry is learning so much from the half-blood prince, dumbledore has been giving harry private sessions where they study memories of tom riddle (lord voldemort) to find his weaknesses which may be the key to defeat him.
the movie didn’t start with the usual dursley comic moment. it didn’t even start like it did in the book where the minister of magic talks to the prime minister to warn him about lord voldemort. instead, it began with the death eaters attacking both the muggle and wizarding worlds which was quite incredible actually. the effects are stunning, as always… especially during the quidditch match.
i, as a reader, understand that this part of the series is the preparation for the culmination of the saga which means that the story can be quite dragging and with less action. it is more about the discovery of lord voldemort’s past and the preparation for the great war against the death eaters. so i was really looking forward to the fight scene in the end, where the order of the phoenix and some of the members of dumbledore’s army battled against the death eaters who attacked the castle.it was my favorite fight scene while reading the books, they should have included it in the movie! but what do i get? nothing! i was really disappointed because it was the only real action in the book and they chose to leave it out. what was the point of the death eaters gate crashing the castle then? why did draco malfoy spent all his effort in mending that vanishing cabinet in the room of requirement? i was so bummed and pissed!
it is anticipated that the director has to cut out some parts of the novel and include scenes that aren’t originally written to add more drama to the movie. the movie had its goofy moments that made me laugh and giggle which made it less serious and not boring. but i have to say, there was no point in that added scene where bellatrix and greyback attacked the burrow. what happened after that? yes, it added suspense but it didn’t really make any sense. they shouldn’t have done that scene anymore and just did the fight scene in the end instead! (i just can’t get over it! )
i can’t believe i’m going to say this… i’m a big fan of harry potter, believe me. but i’d give this movie a 3 out of 5… i loved the movie, but just because my favorite fight scene of the order of the phoenix and dumbledore’s army against the death eaters while harry is chasing snape wasn’t in the movie, it cost 2 points…
so, there it is… my own review of the harry potter and the half-blood prince movie. i tried my best to make it short and just leave out the rest of my thoughts to myself. i honestly could go on all day talking about the movie, but i won’t.. i know my post is already long enough to bore most of you.. so i’ll just leave it up to here…

last night, my sisters’ and i waited until the clock would strike 12 so we could surprise our mom and greet her a happy mothers’ day. we wanted to do something sweet for her so we bought her flowers, some red wine, and a cake.
it was quite funny when we walked into her room and started singing “happy mothers’ day to you” (with the tune of the birthday song.. haha!) she didn’t notice us at first because she was busy on the internet and didn’t even bother to look at us. when finally, she noticed that we were there, she laughed so hard and asked us to sing again just so she can take a video of us.
then we went to the kitchen, opened the red wine and started eating the cake. (midnight celebration!)

btw, it wasn’t an easy job for me to sing, because i have no voice at the moment! my mom even asked me last night not to talk starting now so i could get my voice back. i can’t not talk! i’m too talkative not to talk! i don’t think i can do this, but i have to! if i ever want to talk again, i just have to keep my big mouth shut until i get my voice back.
anyways, HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY again! don’t forget to greet your moms!
